Vienna Election Tuesday

Four candidates, three of whom are incumbents, are running for the three seats on the Vienna Town Council. Voting takes place at the Community Center May 4 from 6 AM to 7 PM. We asked for a brief statement from each of the candidates, and their replies appear below.

David Patariu

I am a Vienna dad with three young children, a parishioner at Our Lady of Good Counsel Church, a Planning Commissioner for the Town of Vienna, and an advocate for residents.  My pro-resident platform includes Safer Streets, Prioritizing parks, and Stopping water rate increases. I will work for YOU on Town Council, not greedy developers. Visit to learn more.

Nisha Patel

I strongly support the preservation of Vienna’s character, and its strong residential focus. I believe commercial redevelopment of Maple Avenue needs to be done responsibly, with consideration to building height, density, traffic, parking, walkability, town parks, infrastructure, and our local schools.

I am fiscally responsible and budget conscientious. I encourage active citizen engagement with fair opportunities for all to present their ideas and concerns. I am proud of my voting record on Council and my initiatives such as the sidewalk at the intersection of Church and Park streets, the real estate tax cut, the logical approach to the Robinson trust sidewalk program and re-evaluation of our leaf mulching program here in the Town.

All of my decisions have been resident focused. Vienna is a family friendly community.  Let’s keep it that way! Vote for Nisha Patel,  MD on May 4. See more at

Knowledge and experience will be particularly important in this election. As a former U.S. Naval officer serving on a flight deck, a senior level business executive with 35+ years’ experience, and as a current Council Member, I have the proven history in planning, budgeting, capital expenditures, attention to detail, collaboration, and results this job requires.
